HARD CHARGE Crowns New Champions at Second-Annual Event in Wichita

HARD CHARGE obstacle course race was held at the Kansas Coliseum; show will air on KWCH, KSCW and Fox Sports Midwest.

Wichita, KS, May 01, 2014 --(PR.com)-- HARD CHARGE national television show and premier obstacle course racing series, named two new CHARGE Champions at the event this past Saturday, Apr 26. In his fourth HARD CHARGE event, Norm Weiskopf of Springfield, IL won the Men’s CHARGE Championship, while newcomer Tanya Meyers of Plainville, KS took the Women’s title.

At 47 years old, Weiskopf became the oldest Men’s CHARGE Champion in HARD CHARGE history. He brought home the title and Truss by racing an average pace of 8:49 min/mile and finishing in a time of 36:58, beating second-place finisher, Jason Braun, by nearly one full minute. Wichita resident, Nathan Palmer, took third place in a time of 37:53.

In her first obstacle course race, Meyer upset last year’s Women’s Champion, Emily McVay of Wichita, and won the race in a time of 44:20. She maintained an average pace per mile of 10:34, beating McVay, who finished in 46:20. Three-time HARD CHARGE top 5 finisher and Wichita resident, Janeth Diaz, placed third in a time of 47:22.

The event was HARD CHARGE’s second in Wichita, and hosted thousands of participants, volunteers, spectators and local vendors. Three episodes were filmed for HARD CHARGE, the first and only obstacle course racing television series. It focuses on the world’s fastest-growing adventure sport and the athletes who compete for the title of CHARGE Champion. The series airs nationally on Comcast SportsNet, Fox Sports and various local affiliates across the country. Locally, episodes can be seen on KSCW every Saturday night at 7.

Those interested in taking part in the next HARD CHARGE will have the opportunity on May 17 in Minneapolis. Viewers can watch the series, then decide if they’ll CHARGE a HARD CHARGE course for Fun or CHARGE for Glory to earn a spot to race on TV. In addition to the strong turnout, the event benefitted Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals at Via Christi Health. Also, hundreds of shoes were collected and donated to national charitable organization, Barrel Aid.
