Smith Point, NY, May 19, 2014 --(PR.com
)-- The Annual Smith Point Triathlon will be held on June 1st 2014 at Smith Point County Park. It is a sprint-distance triathlon. The race will be raising money for the Frances Pope Foundation who helps families of critically ill children, as well as numerous local charities.
Starting at the immaculate Smith Point County Park, the race starts with a 500-meter Narrow’s Bay swim. The swimmers will be exiting the water at the newly constructed Suffolk County fishing pier. The swim will be followed by a flat 12-mile bike ride over the Smith Point Bridge up William Floyd Parkway and back. The race concludes with a scenic 2.9-mile run over the bridge ending at the start. With ample parking, a race-day-expo, and the allure of a post-race ocean beach day, this race is a must-do for athletes of all abilities on Long Island.
“By focusing on health and fitness through the safe and fair conduct of races, we want to place a strong emphasis on ‘Empowering Yourself’ through the completion of a triathlon. We not only raise money and awareness through our Long Island Triathlon Tour races, but we foster the opportunity for the average Long Islander to make incremental health goals, which creates a stronger Long Island,” stated Steve Tarpinian of Event Power.
The triathlon will be produced by Event Power, Long Island’s Premiere Triathlon Event Company, and by Getco Company. The organization of the race was spearheaded through Suffolk County Legislator Kate Browning (WF-Shirley).
“Legislator Browning has been tremendous in getting together all the different groups in one room so we continue to make this race a reality. The various governmental agencies, emergency services and civic groups in the area have been warm and accommodating,” stated Maureen Getchell, President of Getco Company “we are so proud to be working with such professionals as we put together this race every year.”
The Smith Point Triathlon’s organizers have extended invitations to local officials in an attempt to “Get Healthy Long Island”. By having our officials lead by example we will be able to significantly reduce the top five chronic diseases that affect Long Islanders; heart disease; diabetes; cancer; lung disease and cirrhosis.
Suffolk County Legislator Kate Browning and Supervisor Ed Romaine (R-Center Moriches) are supporters of the race.
“The race will showcase the beauty and amenities of the Tri-Hamlet community and Smith Point County Park,” stated Legislator Kate Browning. “The citizens of this outstanding community have always known this area to be a diamond-in-the-rough, and this race will help highlight beautiful neighborhoods and waterfront views. I am proud of being a part of keeping this event to our area.”
“With our ability to work together, we are focusing on generating funds to help the families of sick kids as well as local community outreach through this great race sponsorship. We want all Long Islanders to become active participants in reinvigorating the Tri-Hamle’s physical and economic potency,” said Maureen Getchell, Getco Company.
