Joseph Fried grew up in Atlanta. In 1990, he graduated summa cum laude with a B.A. from Oglethorpe University while working full time as a police officer. He graduated cum laude from the University of Georgia School of Law in 1993. When he was appointed as a Magistrate Judge in Fulton County, Georgia, in 1994, Joseph A. Fried was the youngest judge ever appointed in Fulton County.
