Second Annual Eclipse IP Futures Conference Delivers Real World Insights on Monetizing Intellectual Property

Patent Value, America Invents Act, and “Patent Trolls” Big Part of Conversation at Event Hosted by RTI International, Neopatents, NC COIN

Research Triangle Park, NC, June 20, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Thought leaders from across the country met in RTP June 10 to deliver real world insights on monetizing intellectual property during the 2nd Annual Eclipse IP Futures Conference co-hosted by Neopatents, NC COIN (North Carolina Center of Innovation for Nanobiotechnology) and RTI International.

Topics related to non-practicing entities (or “patent trolls”), how to create and use patents to deliver real value in business, and new challenges created by the America Invents Act made up a big part of the conversation at the half-day event.

Conference Founder and CEO of Neopatents, JiNan Glasgow George noted, “Each year we host the Eclipse IP Futures Conference, we strive to present the most important, most current, and often controversial perspectives that are transforming how patents are used in business. Beyond the globally recognized speakers, the diversity of participants – including investors, C-level business executives, patent attorneys, government leaders, and entrepreneurs – and the unique conference format work together to stimulate connections that will create positive economic impact.”

About 60 technology, life sciences, and legal industry professionals from North Carolina and beyond interacted with presenters Martin Renkis, CEO of Nashville, Tenn.-based video surveillance technology company Smartvue; Jeff Ronaldi, CEO of Lexington Technology Group, Inc., an intellectual property management firm with offices in northern Virginia; Dean Woodward, RTI’s assistant general counsel for IP and licensing; keynote speaker and IP veteran Ron Epstein, CEO and founder of California-based Epicenter IP; and Glasgow, CEO of Neopatents, who served as facilitator in addition to presenting on issues related to how patent data can be used in portfolio development, risk management, acquisition and monetization.

“The presentations and discussions at the Conference offered that rare blend of scholarship and business perspectives which is so valuable to stakeholders within the innovation economy,” COIN Executive Director Joe Magno said, adding, “Having voices from beyond RTP contribute to the conversation locally is incredibly important and welcomed.”

After the conference, attendees and presenters continued the conversation, debates, and initiated new business connections about the benefits and uses of intellectual property at a 2-1/2 hour reception provided by Neopatents at The Umstead, a Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star hotel and spa in Cary.

Neopatents provides patent research and analytics services with its proprietary, patented software platform to clients globally from its Durham, NC-based offices.
