)-- Viewpoints Industry TV will look at the venerable Caddie. The Cadillac. It’s part of the lexicon, synonymous with high-end luxury vehicles. But Americans aren’t buying them in the numbers they once did. Americans who can afford a luxury car are turning to the Germans and, to a lesser extent, the Japanese: Mercedes, Audi, BMW and Lexus. For North American buyers, the Cadillac just doesn’t bear the cache of wealth, status and quality that it used to. There is, however, one note of stinging irony in all this. It would seem that the best market for Cadillacs, indeed expected to jump by 40% this year, is China. The Chinese are still hearing the name "Cadillac" and thinking "luxury car." The management of General Motors remains optimistic about the brand.
