Workplace Bling: Wearable Fitness-Tracking Devices Focus of Employer Healthcare & Benefits Congress Think Tank Challenge

The Employer Healthcare & Benefits Congress will Host a Think Tank Challenge focused on Wearable Fitness Devices

Washington, DC, August 22, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Employers who design corporate wellness programs can judge for themselves what works best at work by taking part in the “Wearable Fitness Devices & Think Tank Challenge,” at the Employer Healthcare Benefits Congress, Sept. 20-24, 2014, in Washington, D.C., the Corporate Health & Wellness Association announced today.

“Fitness devices – those wearable gadgets wrapped around wrists, slipped onto waistbands or dropped in a pocket to measure and manage everything from overall exercise movement to diet and sleep patterns -- are all the rage of corporate wellness programs,” said Dr. Bruce Rogen, a chief medical officer at the Cleveland Clinic and a panel member on the “Think Tank,” which will identify wearable technology on the market and offer solutions for employers looking to implement these devices in their corporate wellness programs and evaluate their success.

Employers attending the Employer Healthcare & Benefits Congress at the Gaylord Resort Hotel and Convention Center will have the opportunity to wear the motion-tracking devices and judge for themselves during various fitness challenges. A panel of employers reviews determine the 2014 Corporate Premier Wearable Award winner.

“These wearable gadgets work in concert with smartphone apps and websites to help wearers set goals and then provide the motivation to achieve them,” said Sally Luck, HR Director, at Hallmark Cards, Inc. and “Think-Tank” panelist. “In the same breath, employers who integrate these immensely popular activity-tracking devices into their corporate wellness programs will be challenging manufacturers to keep pace with their evolving needs.”

Canalys, a market research firm, predicts smart bands will become an even popular consumer technology, reaching 8 million shipments this year alone. And that’s just getting started. Canalys estimates that this number will grow to more than 23 million units by 2015, and more than 45 million by 2017. ABI Research predicts at least 13 million wearable devices will be incorporated into employee wellness programs by 2018.
