Youth Council Offers City of Sugar Hill an Additional Perspective

City Hall is introducing the formation of Sugar Hill's own Youth Council. City Hall is excited to have students grades nine through twelve with representation from Lanier and North Gwinnett High Schools, as well as homeschools, engaging in the community.

Sugar Hill, GA, September 15, 2014 --(PR.com)-- The City of Sugar Hill is very excited to start a new chapter by the formation of the new Youth Council. The Youth Council will seek to have representation from Lanier High School, North Gwinnett High School, as well as from home, and alternative schools.

“This is a great time for youth civic engagement. We’re very excited to get the ball rolling here in Sugar Hill, and to lead other cities to explore engaging their youth as well,” said one of the group founders, Jack Samuels. The idea behind this council is to get students grades 9 through 12, engaged in their community and to become vital members of society. The City hopes to garner some fresh perspectives and engage the future life blood of the City.

“The Youth Council provides the city of Sugar Hill valuable input from their demographic of the city, while providing the chosen youth council members experience in real life issues of a councilman's need to gather input, make decisions, and promote plans. This will be an invaluable experience for any youth that wants to know more about how politics work and what it truly means to be a public servant,” stated Councilmember Mike Sullivan.

Information can be found on the City of Sugar Hill’s website, through Mr. Jones from Lanier High School and Assistant Principal Baker from North Gwinnett High School. The City encourages high school students from both of these schools, as well as home, and alternative schools to apply for this prestigious opportunity to participate in youth civic engagement.
