Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center Wins Award at the BCA Annual Summit

ENERActive Solutions' Energy Audit and Retro-Commissioning project at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC)'s Sidney Kimmel Center for Prostate and Urologic Cancers was selected as the winner of the Existing Building Category at the Building Commissioning Association (BCA) Northeast Chapter's 8th Annual Commissioning Summit.

New York, NY, October 18, 2014 --(PR.com)-- ENERActive Solutions is pleased to announce that their Energy Audit & Retro-Commissioning project at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC)'s Sidney Kimmel Center for Prostate and Urologic Cancers was selected as the winner of the Existing Building Category at the 2014 Commissioning Project Awards. Through Eneractive’s distinct approach, experienced engineering personnel, and hands-on field testing, the project not only fulfilled, but exceeded the client’s operational needs and expectations, while executed in accordance with Local Law requirements, ASHRAE Energy Auditing Guidelines, NEBB Retro-Commissioning Procedural Standards, and the ‘Essential Attributes of Building Cx’ per the BCxA.

The work performed at the Kimmel Center significantly improved and enhanced occupancy comfort levels. Due to the critical nature of the services provided and patients served at the Kimmel Center, it was vital to reduce maintenance issues and calls to these spaces. As Kimmel Center patients undergoing chemotherapy were extremely sensitive to space temperatures, it was critical for the Eneractive Team to identify and implement Energy Conservation Measures (ECMs), which not only reduced energy consumption but significantly enriched patients quality of stay and comfort.

Upon completion of the project, a total of seven (7) Capital ECMs were identified and four (4) O&M ECMs were identified for implementation; execution of these ECMs will reduce site electricity consumption by over 50% and steam consumption by 30%, while maintaining a payback period of 0.9 years. Additionally, the implementation of these ECMs will account for a total of $191,250 in annual savings and help offset site energy consumption by approximately 1,291,151 kWh and 1,283 Klbs annually.

As the Eneractive Team identified several measures for optimization, they lead efforts to ensure two major ECMs were implemented and executed optimally to achieve the greatest energy savings possible, while still meeting occupant needs. Eneractive provided engineering, project management, and third party review services throughout the course of the project to ensure that the 2 major ECMs reached their full potential for energy savings. MSKCC has since implemented the projects and energy savings were realized. This resulted in total savings of $107,843, with a $30,270 rebate (as executed under NYSERDA’s Energy Advisor Program), equating to a simple payback of just 1.4 years.

The Kimmel Center was selected for this award in recognition of the commissioning services implemented for the project, as well as the owner's commitment to the commissioning process. The Building Commissioning Association (BCA) Northeast Chapter announced the winners at their 8th Annual Commissioning Summit which was held Tuesday, October 14th in Boston, MA.

Congratulations to everyone involved in this project.
