USA FIT East Bay Ready to Turn Couch Potatoes into 1st-Time Marathoners for the San Francisco Marathon

Group Training Program Opens Online Registration through Jan. 31 at www.USAFITEastBay.com

Danville, CA, December 13, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Online registration for the Spring 2015 USA FIT East Bay marathon and half marathon training program is open now through Jan. 31 at www.USAFITEastBay.com. For the past decade, the 26-week group program, which begins Jan. 24 and ends with the San Francisco Marathon on July 26, has transformed couch potatoes and beginning runners alike into first-time marathoners. Now through Dec. 15, new members can enjoy $10 off their registration with discount code “eastbay2015.”

"Although we train many experienced runners and even some Boston qualifiers, we have a special spot for our beginners,” says co-organizer and coach Joy Chau, who achieved her first marathon finish after training with USA FIT East Bay herself in 2004. “It really excites us as coaches to see members who only dreamed of running 13.1 or 26.2 miles cross the finish line for the first time.”

Each Saturday, members meet for ability-based runs at different scenic running locations across the East Bay area. In between Saturday sessions, they follow a carefully devised daily training schedule, learn from informational seminars, enjoy occasional social events and receive additional encouragement and expertise from their coaches. Participants gently build up their base mileage each week, an approach that helps new and returning members successfully work their way to longer distances with minimal risk of injury.

USA FIT East Bay member Melissa Williams is one of many first-time marathoner success stories. Having just moved to San Ramon in 2013, Williams felt the sting of a hard move, completely new and unknown surroundings and isolation from her friends and family back home. After joining USA FIT East Bay and completing the program, Williams not only earned her first half marathon finish but also gained a group of lifelong friends, an appreciation for the natural beauty of her new home that she would not have otherwise discovered and an addiction to long-distance running. According to Williams, her personal success can be attributed to her USA FIT family, especially the coaches.

"I ran my first half marathon after training. Training with USA FIT East Bay totally prepared me physically and mentally,” says Melissa. “I then ran the San Francisco Full Marathon. Again, feeling totally prepared, I still felt the normal fatigue during the race. One of our coaches Kevin Morris ran by my side from the start until I finished the race. This incredible passion and dedication from our coaches from beginning to literally the end is what truly sets this group apart and makes real runners out of people like me.”

The USA FIT East Bay Marathon and Half Marathon training program is ready to help anyone achieve a long-distance finish this spring. Members can concurrently join USA FIT’s inaugural sprint triathlon program for beginners at a discount, which will only require their adding Sunday bike and swim sessions to the second half of their marathon or half marathon training regimen.
