Kat's Korner Hosts Historic Evening

Phoenix, AZ, May 28, 2015 --(PR.com)-- Come celebrate Kat’s Korner’s 15th anniversary on June 30th, 2015. Kat’s Korner is home to swing dancing, one of America’s only authentic art forms. America invented jazz music and the dances that go with it. Hearken back to the era of Big Band Jazz with the Kat’s Korner, named after the birthplace of Lindy Hop in New York.

Kat’s Korner has been providing a fun environment to socialize and dance for 15 years now. It is the longest-running weekly swing dance in Arizona, and one of the longest in the United States. There is a beginner dance lesson at 7pm with Karen and Dabney Hopkins, National Jitterbug Champions, who will teach you all of their tricks and secrets. Even the most left-footed person can enter the dance floor with confidence.

This is an all-ages venue that provides a great environment to socialize. As opposed to so many of the clubs of today, this is an alcohol-free venue that is still fun. Karen and Dabney create a welcoming environment, so even the shyest wallflowers have a great time.

With vintage dance clips projected onto the wall, you will never lack inspiration. The floor itself is a 2,000 square-foot wood floor that is perfect for swing dancing. The room is always transformed per the theme of the evening, and people are encouraged to dress up. Walk in to Kat’s Korner, and it’s easy to forget you’ve been there for hours.

This night in particular is going to be one of the best nights in Kat’s Korner’s history. Jump, Jive, and Wail will be performing classic swing hits, as well as some original music. Originally formed in 1998 with a former member from Louis Prima’s historic jazz band, Jump, Jive, and Wail has been entertaining audiences with world-class musicians for years and this night will be no exception. When the band is on break, some of the best swing DJs in Arizona will be providing fun, original sets.

Mocktails and snacks will be available as well. With such titles as the Shaggin Shirley, the Lindy Bomb and the Charleston Chaser, dancers can hydrate with these elixirs all night long. Snacks will include both sweet and savory fare.

One of the highlights of the evening will be a Jack and Jill-style dance contest at 10pm, where people are randomly partnered and get to show off their dance skills together. It costs only $5 to enter, but the first-place winners will receive a $200 cash prize. 2nd and 3rd place will get passes to Kat’s Korner for the rest of the year, which is an incredible deal.
