Sevara #1: Her Past Destroyed Our Future

Unparalleled sci-fi/fantasy comic book from Broken Icon Comics draws readers into a raw and brutal future frighteningly similar to our own. “In terms of what can make really good science-fiction, it would seem as though the pieces are all here.” (Edward Wendt for Graphic Policy)

Washington, DC, July 01, 2015 --(PR.com)-- A shape shifting goddess awakens from a fifty-thousand year sleep to find a future that looks like our medieval past. Civilization has reverted to barbarism and chaos, and Sevara has no idea why. Before she went into stasis, she and her fellow immortals purged evil from mankind. Yet somehow, cruelty and hate crawled back into the world in the form of slavery, torture, and oppression. As Sevara races to find out what went wrong, she makes startling discovery – the memories of her mortal life have infected all of humanity. Sevara must fight to put the world back to the way it was.

In this 24 page adventure, Sevara learns the startling truth of mankind’s fall. A despotic king twists Sevara’s own memories to enslave the weak, not unlike the way religious texts are corrupted in the name of greed and power. At its core, Sevara is a shocking portrayal of contemporary human behavior at its most extreme.

Focused on strong female characters and tragic conflict, Sevara delivers an epic sword and sorcery fantasy world that falls somewhere between Red Sonja and Game of Thrones. The magic, however, is technology from the past that grants Sevara godlike powers. According to writer/creator Damian Wampler,“Sevara is like a samurai Gandhi, trying to balance the urge to use violence with the wisdom of peace and restraint. Sevara is about the deeply personal pain of human existence, wrapped in a rousing fantasy adventure.”

The adventure begins!
Sevara #1 follows the June release of Sevara issue #0, introducing what Damian calls a ‘mythos of the psyche’. Issue #1 fully realizes his stark vision of humanity that appears foreign, yet speaks to everyone. Edward Wendt of Graphic Policy says, “He creates his own mythology, rooted in some basic religious concepts but distinctly different.” The first adventure is a quest for redemption and revenge in an alternate future-past. It features ground breaking artwork by Andre Siregear & Anang Setyawan, and cover art by Joshua Chinsky. Spanning centuries, this totally original fantasy world takes action and adventure to a new level.
