IEHIE Recognizes Riverside Family Physicians as "Practice Interoperability Champion" & St. Agnes Medical Center of Fresno as "Hospital Interoperability Champion" of 2016

Riverside, CA, June 18, 2016 --(PR.com)-- The Inland Empire Health Information Exchange (IEHIE) recognizes St. Agnes Medical Center (a Trinity Health facility) in Fresno as the “Hospital Interoperability Champion” and Riverside Family Physicians of Riverside as the “Practice Interoperability Champion” of 2016. At the forefront of clinical data sharing, St. Agnes and Riverside Family Physicians have been instrumental in the success of interoperability within HIEs across California. IEHIE continues to value their foresight and support in advancement of data exchange and to foster collaboration with other participants in the community in pursuit of improved patient care and access.

Nearly 100 participating organizations throughout California were considered for the award, with final evaluations made by the IEHIE, headquartered in Riverside, in conjunction with support from the HIE leadership and supporting committees.

“IEHIE is providing the technology and implementation support to connect 13+ provider organizations in our 4-county area; our consortium is grateful that information access to enable patient care is taking a step forward in our region.” – Jamie Franklin, Board Chairman, Central Valley HIE

The California-based HIE continues to make progress in connecting the different types of healthcare organizations – which include health plans, disparate hospitals and clinics, and other providers within the state – independently of the Electronic Health Record (EHR) they use. By enabling healthcare organizations to electronically review and access medical records in real-time, the IEHIE aims to provide patients with more timely, secure, and improved quality of care.

As of today, IEHIE connects electronic health records across dozens of counties and hundreds of healthcare facilities participating in California. The organizations participating in the exchange of clinical data are comprised of four public HIEs (Inland Empire HIE, Central Valley HIE, San Joaquin Community HIE and ConnectHealthcare), 50+ hospitals/systems (including Dignity Health, Prime Healthcare, St. Joseph Health, Community Medical Centers Healthcare, Loma Linda University Health and Universal Health Services), 125+ clinics, 10+ IPAs/health plans, laboratories/imaging services (Quest, LabCorp, BioData and RadNet), a cloud-based EHR (athenahealth®), as well as future plans to support Emergency Medical Services agencies. Many new participants are in the process of onboarding to IEHIE.

“For our 1.14 million Members, the HIE can significantly improve the quality and coordination of their care by allowing providers in different settings to see the care, medications, lab tests and other clinical information from other care sites that the Member has accessed.” – Dr. Bradley Gilbert, MD, Chief Executive Officer of Inland Empire Health Plan

IEHIE also supports state-level reporting via CalREDIE, CAIR and RIDE, and has connected to the Sequoia Project’s eHealth Exchange patient search and retrieval services. Kaiser, Community Medical Centers (Fresno), Cedars-Sinai Medical Center (Los Angeles), Sutter Health and Veterans Administration are the first connection points under this new framework.

“IEHIE is enabling secure data sharing between our members in San Joaquin County and facilities outside of our service area that see our patients. The potential value for participating health care organizations is tremendous.” – Mark Elson, Executive Director, San Joaquin Community HIE

The launch of Provider Care Companion, IEHIE’s newest pilot program, is expected to have significant impact on provider adoption and clinical workflows to support care coordination. This program is focused on increasing access to clinical information by overcoming interoperability challenges faced by our community.

“Having an exchange helps to coordinate care for patients and improve communication between physicians. We can reduce duplication of tests performed in the emergency room and other locations.” – Dr. Damodara Rajasekhar, MD, Independent Physician

IEHIE is passionate about serving the needs of the community in supporting healthcare-related concerns for their patients. The team is driven to enable better healthcare delivery and collaboration between providers and patients by fostering an environment that allows meaningful exchange of data.
