Help a Child Get a Good Start in School

The Salvation Army of Venice is collecting school supplies for kids in need.

Venice, FL, August 06, 2016 --(PR.com)-- Remember your first day of school each year? What child doesn’t enjoy toting that new backpack filled with sharpened pencils and new notebooks off to another exciting year? Sadly, many children in south Sarasota County wouldn’t have that experience if it weren’t for the Venice Salvation Army. Anyone who has sent a child to school knows the expense involved with purchasing school supplies. Composition books, folders, pens, pencils, erasers, folders, markers, crayons, binders and more add up quickly. For some families in our community acquiring these supplies, if they are able to buy them at all, might mean skipping a meal, a utility payment or more. Educators agree that children do better in school when they are prepared.

The Salvation Army in Venice is addressing the great need in south Sarasota County by holding its annual backpack giveaway on August 13. But in order to hand out those 300 filled backpacks, the community’s help is needed. The Salvation Army office at 1051 Albee Farm Road, Venice is accepting either monetary donations or school supplies from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. (closed 12-1 for lunch), Monday to Friday, through August 11. For more information, call (941) 484-6227.
