Teaching Authors to Perfect Their Pitch

Ms. Calvin led a session on Perfecting Your Pitch for the Agile Writers in Richmond, VA. The presentation focused on helping writers pitch their book to potentials buyers, publishers, and audiences.

During the session Ms. Calvin shared information on genres, public speaking opportunities, and advice from publishers about how to effectively pitch a book and write a query letter. The Agile Writers were given examples of successful query letters with comments from publishing companies and agents. Before the session concluded, the Agile Writers practiced writing query letters and broke into small groups to offer each other feedback and constructive criticism. Agile Writers of Richmond, VA is a writer’s club dedicated to helping the beginning writer create a first-draft novel in 6 months. Greg Smith created the Agile Writer Method as a way of getting from a blank page to a full manuscript.
