Association Transforms Strategic Partnership Approach to Maximize Member Value

AMC Institute, the trade association for the association management company community redesigned its approach to strategic partnerships resulting in the selection of Association Headquarters, the AMC division of AH, to be its strategic management partner. The new alliance will allow AMCI to continue to build its value proposition for member firms and the associations they serve as well as extend the organization’s growing influence internationally.

Association Transforms Strategic Partnership Approach to Maximize Member Value
Alexandria, VA, September 23, 2016 --(PR.com)-- Under pressure to respond to rapidly changing business conditions as well as to address the social, political, environmental and technological influences that impact their members most, association leaders are looking to reshape traditional relationships with vendors and service providers into true strategic partnerships. AMC Institute (AMCI), the trade association for the association management company (AMC) community has done just that in selecting Association Headquarters, the AMC division of AH, to be its strategic management partner to continue to build AMCI’s value proposition for member firms and the associations they serve as well as extend the organization’s growing influence internationally.

“We knew this was a rare opportunity to rethink the traditional approach to selecting an AMC,” explained Greg Schultz, Executive Vice President at Kellen and AMCI’s Board Chair, “and if we got it right, we could be both a case study and a best practice example for other association leaders.”

“We had to look at our organization candidly,” said Fred Stringfellow, CAE, President of Stringfellow Management Group and chair of the task force organizing the search, “and be frank about our strengths and weakness. As part of a new team, the focus had to be on our current strengths and assets as an organization, what we wanted to achieve, and what we could offer a potential partner.”

Key to the success of the initiative was redefining the selection process by streamlining activities, eliminating the ‘show’ that can accompany proposal presentations, clearly outlining ‘make or break’ expectations, and keeping the door wide open for creative solutions and new opportunities. “We weren’t just talking about the selection of a professional services company; we were developing a process that would be helpful for any organization interested in assessing strategic relationship opportunities,” explained Stringfellow.

For Bob Waller, CAE, AH President & CEO, “The entire process was very thoughtful and engaging. We were able to focus on the specific needs outlined by the Institute, and that allowed us to demonstrate how AH could provide the talent, services, opportunities, culture, and commitment that would be a seamless fit for the two organizations, and more importantly result in tangible benefits for AMCI’s members.” Led by AMCI CEO Tina Wehmeir, CAE, transition to AH will be complete on October 3, when AMCI moves to AH’s Alexandria, VA office.
