Marlborough Works! Initiative Helps Jobseekers Get Noticed Online

LinkedIn workshop teaches personal SEO for job search, ahead of Marlborough job fair.

Marlborough, MA, October 21, 2016 --(PR.com)-- As part of Mayor Arthur Vigeant’s Marlborough Works! initiative to increase local employment, the Marlborough Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) held a free LinkedIn workshop for local residents at the Embassy Suites last night.

About 20 jobseekers attended the workshop, which helped them better understand how to use LinkedIn to showcase their résumés, network with recruiters, and be found by potential employers.

The workshop was the lead-in to the city’s largest job fair—the fifth annual Marlborough Works! Job Fair—to be held on October 27th from 5:30pm to 8pm at the Courtyard by Marriott-Marlborough Ballroom.

To date, close to 30 Marlborough area companies, including GE Healthcare, The TJX Companies, Ken’s Foods, DCU, OYO Sports, and Prudential Financial, have confirmed their attendance and will be hiring for hundreds of open positions at the job fair. More than 100 jobseekers have already registered online to attend.

According to the latest figures from the Massachusetts Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development, Marlborough’s unemployment rate has fallen by 44% since the Marlborough Works! initiative launched in 2012. MEDC Executive Director Meredith Harris says the goal continues to be to give area residents all the tools and opportunities they need to succeed in the local job market.

“We felt it was important to help educate local residents who want to learn how to use and take advantage of LinkedIn in their job searches,” Harris said. “I think this workshop also gives people a head start at the upcoming job fair, by inspiring confidence and focusing their efforts on companies and jobs that closely reflect their skill sets. We have been working hard to bring new employers into the city and now we want to work even harder to match them up with our local residents.”

Job fair attendees are encouraged to register online ahead of time, in order to avoid long lines, and bring a printout of their registration to the job fair for a chance to win a free laptop.
