Mayoral Candidate Discusses STEM+C Career Exploration with Cyber Nonprofit
Milwaukee, WI, December 27, 2019 --(PR.com)-- Cyber Institute met with Wisconsin Mayoral candidate Jeremy Scholz to discuss his position on community-based programs for youth and young adults (https://www.postcrescent.com/story/news/local/2019/12/27/appleton-mayoral-race-grows-nine-candidates-deadline-approaches/2732442001/). Scholz, 38, is an information technology director for Coldwell Banker Real Estate. "With my experience in technology, I can bring the insight necessary to government to collaborate with the community on programs that improve the lives of youth.” Executives at the nonprofit believe that aligning government interests with their mission helps ensure a greater impact on their programs. The Cyber Institute wants to increase interest and diversity in STEM+C (Science Technology Engineering Mathematics + Computing) towards more inclusive policy and practice.
Taylor Vance, Executive Director of Cyber Institute’s Center for Women and Minorities in the Cyber Workforce said, “Increasing learning and earning capacities of marginal groups is key to the economic development of communities struggling to retain or retrain workforce talent.” She believes that increasing wages of women and minorities within a community increases standards of living that also increases consumption and discretionary spending which helps local businesses grow (https://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2016/07/01/racial-gender-wage-gaps-persist-in-u-s-despite-some-progress/). Andrew Vance, Executive Director of Cyber Institute’s Center for Cyber Risk Research and Policy said, “Our organization strives to help the government develop policy that is not only effective but is also empowering for the populations it affects.” The nonprofit wants to share research insights with policymakers to ensure taxpayer money is allocated and managed efficiently so that community dollars go further to reduce taxpayer obligation due to government inefficiencies, no matter how well-meaning.
