Web Host Industry Review Publishes May 2008 Green Issue

Hosting magazine covers the critical green hosting issue; publisher launches green data center info site.

Toronto, Canada, May 17, 2008 --(PR.com)-- The Web Host Industry Review (www.thewhir.com), the publication of record for the hosting business, is excited to announce that the May 2008 issue of its Web Host Industry Review magazine addresses many of the environmental issues currently on the minds of hosting decision makers.

Published less than a week after 2008’s Earth Day, WHIR magazine’s “Green Issue” addresses the green hosting discussion from a variety of angles, looking at the movement itself, some of the more technical details of designing an eco-friendly data center and how to go about marketing green hosting services.

“It is exciting that we were able to catch this issue at a pivotal moment, when ‘green’ hosting is of tremendous concern to everyone in this business, but when the rules have yet to be written,” says WHIR editor Liam Eagle. “A lot of people are working hard right now to determine what green hosting is going to mean. We tried to describe those circumstances for our readers, and hopefully contribute something to that discourse.”

In one of the major features, regular contributor Dennis McCafferty examines the community of industry organizations, government agencies and other would-be makers of policy working to write the rules of what will be considered green hosting. Groups like The Green Grid, an industry organization, and organizations like the Environmental Protection Agency are working to develop guidelines and standards against which green hosting efforts can be measured.

And in a separate feature, WHIR regular Wayne Epperson covers the business of designing and building energy-efficient facilities, using real-world examples from some of the hosting businesses currently taking on that specific challenge, such as The Planet and AISO.

In conjunction with the launch of its Green Issue, Web Host Industry Review Inc. is pleased to announce the launch of GreenDataCenterInfo.com (www.greendatacenterinfo.com), a new addition to the WHIR network that will cover green data center issues, publishing news and commentary taken from a variety of sources, including theWHIR.com, the leading source for hosting industry news.

“We’re confident our green issue will provide a truly valuable resource for hosting businesses trying to understand what they can do to make their businesses more green,” says Web Host Industry Review publisher Stephen Mayhew. “And the desire to provide that kind of resource on an ongoing basis led us to develop GreenDataCenterInfo.com. The green building issue is one of the most important discussions in the data center business right now, and we’re going to bring all of that discussion together in one place for people interested in things like energy efficiency and environmental stewardship in the data center.”

GreenDataCenterInfo.com is now online, publishing green data center news every day. WHIR Magazine’s green issue has already mailed, but a link to the digital edition is available at www.thewhir.com/magazine, where visitors can also order back issues or subscribe for free to future issues.
