Skagway, AK, June 25, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Creation of the Edward A. and Jenny Rasmuson Community Health Center is becoming a reality in the community of Skagway, Alaska. Construction of the new clinic building was begun 13 June 2008 with a contract awarded to Dawson Construction Incorporated. A formal groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for 12 August 2008 in Skagway. Completion of the new clinic facility is anticipated for fall of 2009.

In the spirit of a challenge grant awarded to the community by the Rasmuson Foundation, the Municipality of Skagway is encouraging public support for constructing and equipping the new clinic that will serve residents and visitors alike, regardless of their ability to pay. The architectural firm of Livingston Slone Incorporated has designed a unique donor wall for the entrance of the new clinic that will hallmark individuals who have contributed to the success of this project.

Donations supporting the building and equipping of the Edward A. and Jenny Rasmuson Community Health Center are being requested by the Borough. Patrons of the clinic will have a salmon shaped metal plaque with their names engraved on it displayed on the donor wall. Individual species of salmon using different types of metal will be crafted to reflect the varied levels of donation:

• Donors of over $10,000 will have a brass King salmon plaque bearing their name and a logo if desired displayed on the donor wall
• Donors of $5,000 to $10,000 will have an aluminum Silver salmon plaque bearing their name and a logo if desired displayed on the donor wall
• Donors of $1,000 to $4,999 will have a copper Red salmon plaque bearing their name displayed on the donor wall
• Donors of $250 to $999 will have an aluminum Pink salmon plaque bearing their name displayed on the donor wall

A long term community priority, the Edward A. and Jenny Rasmuson Community Health Center will provide the community with nine examination rooms for primary health care services, a complete urgent care suite, two dental operatories, a behavioral health center and room for auxiliary services like optometry and physical therapy services.
