NC Students Place Third in Nation at ARML Competition
A team of 15 students from around North Carolina placed third in the nation at the 33rd Annual American Regions Mathematics League (ARML) Meet on Saturday. The North Carolina team, in what the coaches called a “rebuilding” year with an “awfully young” group of students, were somewhat surprised by their outstanding performance. - June 03, 2008

J. Donald Cline Receives the Champion of Science, Mathematics, and Technology Education Award from the SMT Center
The Champion of Science, Mathematics, and Technology Education Award was given to J. Donald Cline. Cline led an effort to save the Rosman Research Station, a radio telescope facility that had been operated by the Department of Defense, from being closed. In the late 1990’s Cline helped save the center and transform it into the Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute (PARI). PARI provides educational programs at all levels for students and teachers. - May 04, 2008

Adam Meyer Receives the Student Leadership Award in Science, Mathematics, and Technology Education from the SMT Center
The Student Leadership Award of Science, Mathematics, and Technology Education was given to Adam Meyer. Meyer, a senior at Raleigh Charter High School in Raleigh, N.C., worked diligently to raise awareness of the natural beauty and outstanding resources of the Richland Natural Area (RNA). The RNA includes Umstead State Park, Schenck Memorial Forest, the NCSU Equine Educational Unit, the North Carolina Museum of Natural Science’s Prairie Ridge Ecostation and the North Carolina Museum of Art. - May 04, 2008
Shodor Receives the Partnership Award in Science, Mathematics, and Technology Education from the SMT Center
The Partnership Award in Science, Mathematics, and Technology Education was given to Shodor. Shodor is a nonprofit organization that serves students, educators and parents. It is recognized as a national leader in the effective use of computers to improve both math and science education. North Carolina Holds State High School Mathematics Contest - 30 Years of Math Excellence
The North Carolina Science, Mathematics, and Technology Education Center (SMT Center) endorses the State High School Mathematics Contest that will be held Thursday, April 24 at the NC School of Science and Mathematics in Durham, N.C. The top senior will will a full tuition scholarship to Duke University. The 139 students qualified in the regional contests that were held earlier this year around the state, and placed in the top eight percent in those competitions. - April 23, 2008
Future Scientists Gather at Meredith College for the North Carolina State Science Fair
Students will participate in the State Science and Engineering Fair of NC at Meredith College on Saturday, March 15. About 270 students from schools across the state survived the challenge at the regional competition. The public is encouraged to attend from 2-4 p.m. The event will be held in the Math and Science Building. The SMT Center supports events such as this because it is an outlet for students to showcase research they have conducted. - March 12, 2008
SMT Center Sponsors Student Delegation Participation in the Beijing Youth Science Creation Competition
Five students from North Carolina will be traveling with a delegation to Beijing, China to participate in the Beijing Youth Science Creation Competition. This is the only delegation from the United States that will be going to China. The North Carolina Science Mathematics Technology Education Center, (NC SMT) is sponsoring the students to be a part of this event. - March 08, 2008
