Climate Change and Biofuels to Cause Further Hunger in Africa

International food prices have risen at unprecedented rates, main causes being below-normal harvests, growing cereal demand, and increasing use of crop land for biofuels. And climate change will worsen the situation for many sub-Saharan countries which are poor, already food insecure and with low capacity to adapt or finance food imports. These findings from IIASA's Agriculture Program will be presented by Mahendra Shah on 8th May 2008 at the UN Commission on Sustainable Development in New York. - May 08, 2008
