Raleigh School Receives Highest Honors from Metro Magazine.

Readers voted for the award based on quality of education, advanced course offerings and overall experience. Founded in 1842, Saint Mary’s School is an independent, Episcopal, college-preparatory, boarding and day school for young women in grades 9-12. Saint Mary’s School received a second 2008 MetroBravo award in the category of “Built Environment – Campus Buildings.” The school received honorable mention for its main building, Smedes Hall. Renovated in 2007 under lead designer and Saint Mary’s School graduate Carson Clark, Smedes Hall houses dormitory rooms, faculty apartments, a state-of-the-art student center, food court, beautiful parlors, administrative offices, student lounges, the school store, the mailroom and more. The center section of Smedes Hall was built in 1837, and the wings were added in 1909. Smedes Hall and its companion buildings, East Rock and West Rock, are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
