"Birdie" Steals the Show at the 2008 YES! Expo

Plano, TX, September 24, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Melissa High School’s mascot, “Birdie” the Cardinal, stole the show and was crowned the first-ever Collin County “Supreme Mascot.” “Birdie” also known as Krista Katterhenry, received a tremendous amount of fan support from what seemed to be the entire town of Melissa. Birdie fans packed the audience donning red Melissa High t-shirts. Second place went to “Mighty Molar Man” representing 6 Day Dental & Orthodontics. Finishing in third place was “Wally” the Wolverine from Frisco Wakeland High and “Chip” from EDS Credit Union closed the competition with a close fourth place finish.

The 2nd Annual Collin County YES! Expo was held on Saturday, Sept. 13 at Collin Creek Mall and saw a record turnout despite dooming inclement weather as a result of Hurricane Ike. The “Mascot Challenge” finale was the highlight of the expo and showcased the crowd pleasing talents of local high school and company mascots.

The participating mascots took center stage and competed in a series of challenges which included a limbo competition, three-legged race with a young volunteer from the audience, and wrapped up with a dance-off.

The YES! Expo served as a one-stop shop for parents - providing families an opportunity to learn more about various programs, techniques, equipment, safety concerns and social/teamwork skills garnered through sport participation.

As the YES! Expo continues to grow, it is guaranteed that this family event will be fun, educational and continue to foster the importance of giving back. All proceeds benefit the Collin College Education Foundation. See you next year!
