$1.825 Million Fine Highlights Potential Penalties for Pool and Spa Safety Act Noncompliance
San Diego, CA, October 01, 2008 --(PR.com)-- When the Virginia Graeme Baker Pool and Spa Safety Act’s new safety standards take effect December 19, public pool and spa owners and operators will face a potential fine of $1.825 million for noncompliance. The Pool and Spa Safety Act requires that all public pools and spas install anti-entrapment suction outlets to help curb entrapment-related injuries and fatalities.
According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the regulatory body for the Pool and Spa Safety Act, the maximum penalty for one or more related violations is $1.825 million; Congress is considering legislation that would increase this penalty to $10 million or higher.
