Colly Concert Celebrates the Life of Corolyn Woods Soleri

Mayer, AZ, October 03, 2008 --(PR.com)-- The Cosanti Foundation presents the twenty-seventh annual Colly Concert at Arcosanti on October 11, 2008, honoring the life of Corolyn "Colly" Woods Soleri.

It sounds like an architectural fairy tale. Paolo Soleri falls in love with the elder daughter of his first client, Nora Woods, as they all build an innovative desert house in Cave Creek Arizona. A honeymoon to Italy lasts five years and yields a spectacular ceramics factory on the Amalfi coast and Paolo and Colly’s first daughter. Returning to the Arizona desert, they build a 5 acre complex of surprising structures, a bell business, and momentum to launch a new kind of urban system that is Arcosanti.

Colly’s input is critical to the four large festivals at Arcosanti in the 1970’s that brought excellent performers from Richie Havens, Stephen Stills, and Todd Rundgren to the Paul Winter Consort, Louis Falco Dancers, and Gato Barbeiri. Then in 1982 she was gone. They remember her contributions to Arcosanti and its cultural life through the Colly Soleri Music Center and are pleased to celebrate a special day each year as the Colly Concert.

The twenty-seventh annual Colly Concert features pianist Sonya Kumiko Lee on Saturday October 11, 2008 at the Colly Soleri Music Center. In her seventh appearance at Arcosanti, Lee plays the works of Beethoven, Bartok, Schubert, and Chopin. Trained at Julliard, Lee is an accomplished pianist and has won numerous awards both nationally and internationally.

Guests are invited for a complimentary tour of Arcosanti at 5:00 p.m. Dinner will be served after the tour at 6:00 p.m. and the performance begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $40 for the dinner and performance or $20 for the performance only ($10 students). Call 928-632-7135 for tickets; reservations required for dinner.

Dinner Menu

Reminiscent of meals on the Soleri table, a full dinner will be served using some of their favorite recipes. The entree, Herbed Chicken or Eggplant Parmesan, is accompanied by Granny's Borscht, Orzo with Lemon Zest and Parsley, Green Peas with Fresh Mint, Garden Salad with Paolo's Dressing, and Bread Sticks. Colly's Custard with Almonds and Shaved Chocolate completes the meal.
