Animax Entertainment Unveils Development Slate at 2008 MIPCOM

Toronto, Canada, October 08, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Animax Entertainment today unveils a diverse slate of titles prior to this month's MIPCOM TV market in Cannes, France. The Emmy award winning Los Angeles-based studio is co-founded by Dave Thomas, who earlier this year announced a 15-episode order of the prime-time animated series “Bob & Doug” by Canwest Global . Based on the iconic McKenzie Brothers made famous by Thomas and Rick Moranis on SCTV and in the film “Strange Brew,” the series premieres in January 2009. Animax has since expanded operations into Canada with former Nelvana Exec Patricia Burns heading up Production and Development in the Toronto facility.

Animax and Thomas have assembled an amazing team of writers, artists and programmers to develop multiplatform animated and live-action comedy series for audiences of all ages. “I love working with creators with unique comic perspectives,” says Thomas. “Comedy isn’t a one-man show. It’s about building a team. We’ve really put a great team together and you’re going to see some exceptional stuff come out of Animax. ”

Totally Twisted Treehouse (26x11, preschool)
Like most 5 and 6 year-olds, Drew, Addy, Violet and Cruz find themselves confronting a labyrinth of daily struggles: Mom wants you to sit still for family photos, Dad wants you to like his new girlfriend, your little cousin wants to tag along with you everywhere… it’s endless. But when the going gets tough, these four start climbing -- a tree that is. Drew, Addy, Vi, and Cruz find solutions and fun inside their “Totally Twisted Treehouse,” a place where imagination transforms each of them into crime fighters, space explorers, dino-hunters, or whatever else they can dream up. In each animated episode, our four heroes go out on a limb to solve their problems in the most imaginative way... well, imaginable. Aimed at the preschool audience, “Totally Twisted Treehouse” is created by Elise Allen, writer of the bestselling Barbie: Fairytopia DVD series, and multi-platinum songwriter Megan Cavallari. Cavallari is joined on the music front by Jeff Bova, a Grammy-award winning composer and music producer.

Breakfast With Timmy and Gracie (26x11, 6-8)
Timmy and Gracie begin each morning with a heaping bowl of cereal, but the real fun begins as they dig for the toy at the bottom of the box. You see, the toy they pull from the box is no ordinary toy, but a real-life transforming robot…or a helicopter…or a Formula One racecar. Every toy brings a new adventure. In each episode, the two defend their magical toy from the evil Commander Chew and his conniving sidekick Yum. This cereal-chomping animated adventure was developed by Emmy-award winning writer/producer Joe Purdy and features the voice talents of SpongeBob SquarePants’ Tom Kenny, Jill Talley and Dwayne Hill.

It's Freddy! (26x22, 9-14)
So when a giant orange alien who loves to hug, smile, and sing endlessly happy songs lands in your backyard; and you know you have to protect him from government “Shadow Guys” who’d use him as a massive lab rat… what do you do? Make the alien the greatest preschool show star in history, of course! “It’s Freddy!” follows 14-year-old Fargo and his dad Drake as they keep Freddy’s identity a secret by passing him off as a foreign “method actor” who’s in costume all the time, and constantly by Fargo’s side. Fargo knows it’s the right thing to do, but having a huge, lovable alien with no filter on his mouth singing out Fargo’s secrets all the time can seriously cramp his cool. This live-action comedy series with walk-around puppets is also created by the talented duo of Elise Allen and Megan Cavallari.
