Washington, DC, October 11, 2008 --(PR.com
)-- StraighterLine (www.straighterline.com), a new online education solution that provides students a high quality, better supported, and lower cost way to obtain college credits through regionally accredited colleges and universities, has announced that it has partnered with The New York Times Knowledge Network (http://www.nytimes.com/knownow). New York Times editors and journalists are collaborators and participants in shaping the curriculum, with 20 participating in the programs for the fall 2008 semester.
StraighterLine is one of just 15 educational institutions and organizations across the country participating in 47 programs offered through the Knowledge Network. The roster of this fall’s programs covers a wide range of topics, including business, writing, history, health and politics. They use The New York Times and its journalists as teaching resources for personal enrichment, professional development, certification programs and some credit-bearing programs. In addition, many programs feature live Webcasts that allow students to interact with and ask questions of participating Times reporters and editors.
Currently StraighterLine offers two developmental courses, Introductory Algebra and Developmental Writing, and six entry-level curriculum courses where credit can be transferred: College Algebra, English Composition I, Accounting I, Accounting II, Economics I: Macroeconomics and Economics II: Microeconomics. More courses are planned to be added in the future.

“It is an honor to be one of a select few institutions of higher learning to be associated with the New York Times Knowledge Network,” said StraighterLine CEO Burck Smith. “With its legacy of being considered one of the best newspapers in the world, along with its noted emphasis on accuracy, our students will be receiving insights and perspectives from this network and its participants that will enrich their learning experience immeasurably, and at no additional cost to their studies.”
