Spare Some for Autism to Host Corporate Cup Challenge Golf Tournament

Autism organization seeks sponsors for inaugural golf tournament.

Raleigh, NC, October 16, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Beth Jarvis, executive director of Spare Some for Autism (SSFA), has announced its first Corporate Cup Golf Challenge will be held November 10 in Raleigh. Spare Some for Autism, a 501(c)3 non-profit dedicated to improving the quality of life for children with Autism, seeks to support families affected by Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) by educating them on such topics as literacy and coping with disabilities so that families will be better prepared to support each other. The tournament will be held at Raleigh Country Club.

“After our huge success with the Celebrity/CEO Kids Bowling Challenge earlier this year, we were encouraged to organize a golf tournament,” said executive director Jarvis. “Registration is limited to 18 foursomes on a first-come, first-served basis. A limited number of spots are still available.”

As a result of the Bowling Challenge, SSFA just awarded nine grants to the Wake County Public School System for educators who specifically work with children on the spectrum, touching over 100 children affected by Autism.

Registration deadline for the golf tournament is October 24, or when the spots are filled, whichever occurs first. Registration information and more details are available on the Spare Some for Autism website, www.sparesomeforautism.org.

One in every 150 children born in the US has autism. It is estimated approximately one million in the US have this disorder. A new case of autism is diagnosed nearly every 20 minutes. There are 24,000 new cases diagnosed in the U.S. per year. The economic impact of autism is more than $90 billion and expected to more than double in the next decade. Autism receives less than 5% of the research funding of many less prevalent childhood diseases. (Source: Autism Society of America).
