Canister Donates Hundreds of Down Syndrome Guides to National Genetic Counselor Conference

Canister provides 500 copies of Understanding a Down Syndrome Diagnosis and 500 copies of Presenting a Down Syndrome Diagnosis, with a retail value of more than $10,000, to be distributed free of charge to conference attendees at the National Society of Genetic Counselors (NSGC) Annual Education Conference.

Atlanta, GA, October 16, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Design agency Canister (www.canisterco.com) donates hundreds of their uniquely balanced and professional books about Down syndrome for the National Society of Genetic Counselors (NSGC) Annual Education Conference. Five-hundred copies of "Understanding a Down Syndrome Diagnosis" and 500 copies of "Presenting a Down Syndrome Diagnosis," with a retail value of more than $10,000, will be distributed free of charge to conference attendees.

Canister crafted "Presenting a Prenatal Down Syndrome Diagnosis" as a brief medical professional guide using research published by Dr. Brian Skotko in the American Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology and recommendations in ACOG practice bulletins 77 and 88.

Canister combines solid research data and stunning images by photographer Matthew Day in "Understanding a Prenatal Down Syndrome Diagnosis," a resource guide for expectant parents. Because the recently passed Prenatally and Postnatally Diagnosed Conditions Awareness Act requires physicians to provide current information on the range of "physical, developmental, educational, and psychosocial outcomes" for people with Down syndrome, these materials offer pragmatic and non-coercive information for expectant parents so that genetic counselors can disseminate them with confidence.

Justin Meredith, Canister's Creative Director, indicates, "We are thrilled with the response our books have received from both the medical community and parents. The level of quality we've put into writing and production obviously resonates with our audience, and we hope to continue that success for some time."

Conference attendees can receive books at the Down Syndrome Association of Los Angeles booth, operated by DSALA executive director Gail Williamson. Since the number of conference attendees outstrips the number of donated books, visiting the booth early is highly recommended. The books are also available for purchase at www.canisterco.com.

Canister routinely donates time and services to worthy charitable efforts such as the Rose Pedal (www.rosepedal.org), a charity bike ride for cystic fibrosis research, and the Canister Down Syndrome Prenatal Outreach Program, a program for prenatal parent support, available as a free download from the Canister site.
