Mitretek Healthcare to Host a National Leaders Forum for Improving the Healthcare Recall Process

Forum to explore cross-industry issues involving recalls for healthcare products.

Fall Church, VA, May 24, 2006 --(PR.com)-- Mitretek Systems is hosting Improving the Recall Process, a national leaders forum designed to explore deficiencies in the healthcare recall process and to foster industry-wide communication that will lead to better recall management.

The Forum will bring together leaders from the four major stakeholders in the healthcare recall process—manufacturers, distributors, hospitals and health systems, and regulatory agencies— to discuss the problems with the medical recall process. The objectives of the Forum are to identify the priority data and information flow problems in the process and to reach consensus on the initiatives that need to be undertaken to eliminate or minimize the identified problems.

“We have observed that there is a fragmented view of how the healthcare recall process works from end-to-end and that there is no clear vision of the initiatives necessary to systematically improve the entire process,” states Alan Dowling, Executive Director of Mitretek Healthcare. “By bringing the healthcare industry’s major stakeholders together, we hope to remove some of the misconceptions about the recall process and initiate cross-industry collaboration that will ultimately improve the way recalls are handled in the United States.”

The one-day Improving the Recall Process forum will be held on June 14, 2006 at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, DC from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. The Forum will consist of an opening session, four working sessions, and a wrap-up session. Each working session will cover one phase of the recall process. A panel composed of representatives from manufacturing, distribution, hospitals, and the FDA will initiate the discussion in each session. They will pinpoint data and information flow shortcomings in the phase of the process under discussion and will propose initiatives to address these shortcomings.
