Big Brothers Big Sisters is a not-for-profit organization designed to meet the needs of at-risk children and youth through our Community based and site based programs, Big Couples and First Friends. Countless children today find themselves in one-parent families in which the custodial parent is often stretched. In such families, many needs may go unmet. By providing children with caring adult role models and mentors, the program helps kids find their way in an increasingly complex world. Big Brothers Big Sisters is an affiliated agency of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, which is the nation’s foremost mentoring program for children. Joe Dager, owner of Business901 in Fort Wayne, IN is the host and producer of the Connecting Your Passion program. “A fantastic organization and it was a great honor discussing their programs and mission with the group. Big Brothers Big Sisters is a very recognizable national organization and did not know how regionalize their support base is. They serve 10 counties in Indiana and additional counties in southern Michigan,” says Dager.

Dager also added: “It was very interesting that they actually have a waiting list for both the Littles(the children) and the Bigs(Adults) that are waiting to be matched. The matching process is quite intensive and correlates to a problem in hiring and funding the position needed to match the Little and Bigs. It was great having such a diverse panel, volunteer, board member and staff, to share their views. What was he most impressive though is the common passion that all of them shared.

About Big Brothers Big Sisters: Big Brothers Big Sisters is an affiliated agency of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, which is the nation’s foremost mentoring program for children. But that means very little without the help of adult volunteers. More than ever before kids need caring competent adults in their lives—adults who can help guide them through the crucial years from seven to 17. With so many negative influences pressing on today’s kids, having a positive adult role model is an important factor in how children fare in life, now and in the future.

In "Making a Difference: An Impact Study of Big Brothers/Big Sisters", a national study by Public/Private Ventures recently concluded that youths in a Big Brother Big Sister match are much more likely to stay in school and out of trouble than are their peers on the waiting list. Specifically, Littles are up to 70 percent less likely to start using drugs, 50 percent less likely to initiate alcohol use and almost one-third less likely to hit someone.
