VicinityJobs.com Now Provides Free Career Advice to Job Seekers in Greater Toronto

Ontario’s Vicinity Jobs Network now provides online access to a searchable library of hundreds of non-advertising career advice articles.

Toronto, Canada, November 27, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Vicinity Jobs (www.vicinityjobs.com) – the leading network of community-centric employment portals serving the suburban communities surrounding Toronto, Ontario – announced today the launch of its new career advice service. Accessible at www.vicinityjobs.com/tips, it provides insight into the local job markets and recruiting practices to people looking for work in the Greater Toronto Area.

Local residents can search through a library of hundreds of professionally written career advice articles covering various job-market topics, from resume writing and job interviewing techniques, to general employment market and economic trends. Separate sections are dedicated to groups with unique needs, such as new immigrants, student and recent grads, and mature job seekers. Many articles also focus on the needs of working people who are looking for advice on progressing at work, avoiding stress, and achieving a balance between their work and private lives.

Strac Ivanov, co-founder of the Vicinity Jobs Network, feels that the new service is well aligned with the goal of the Vicinity Jobs Network of helping residents of GTA’s suburbs to find work close to home and avoid long-distance commuting. “In today’s uncertain economic times, many people struggle to find and hold on to a job.”, he says, “Those who don’t find work close to home will be more likely to move to another community or take a remote job that requires long commuting. Understanding and taking advantage of the way local job markets work is essential to the success of job seekers. We want to show them that they are not alone, and help them to gain access to the resources that they need to succeed, right in their home communities“.

To ensure the quality of the career advice it provides, the Vicinity Jobs Network follows strict rules concerning the content of articles that it publishes and the credentials of their authors. Articles promoting free government-funded services are allowed, but those advertising paid services are not. To be published, an article must be written by an established job market professionals. All articles published currently are contributed by community partners of the Vicinity Jobs Network, including the Newmarket Employment Resource Centre, the YorkYouth Program of the York Region District School Board, and Mark Swartz – a renowned Canadian career coach and author of the book “Get Wired, You’re Hired”. Mark Swartz also helped to shape the service, by helping define the categories and features available to job seekers.

Strac Ivanov hopes that the new service will attract even more community partners who are willing to share their knowledge and help to build stronger communities.
