Cornerstone Detention Announces Fulton County, Georgia Video Visitation Contract

Prison supply company Cornerstone Detention Products, Inc. has been awarded a contract to supply a modern 70 unit video visitation system to the Fulton County Jail in Georgia. The VizVox Sentry system will increase security in the jail, while still allowing family members and others to visit with the inmates.

Tanner, AL, December 01, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Cornerstone Detention announces a contract with the Fulton County, Georgia Sheriff’s department. The contract will provide a modern 70 unit video visitation system. This system will allow the families of inmates to visit with inmates without entering the facility. This approach to visitation provides increased security, reduces the man-hours required to oversee visitation, and controls the introduction of contraband into facilities.

Fulton County Project Managers: Robert Manning, Glen Laman and Shin Kim.
Project Sponsor: Chief Edward McNeil
Project Size: $400,000 - $500,000

Cornerstone Detention is providing 70 VizVox Sentry units for video visitation. Sixteen of these units will be installed in the visitation trailer located on the opposite side of the Fulton County Jail’s parking lot. Fiber connectivity to the jail will provide for high speed communications. Two units will be kept on site as “spares” and the remainder will be installed in the jail facility inmate visitation area on each floor of the North and South towers.

Servers and software have been installed in Fulton County’s network operations center downtown. The installation includes two control units in the visitation trailer for deputies to connect sessions and to register visitors. A PC has also been installed in the trailer for families of inmates to use for registration. All visits will be scheduled in advance using the software provided with the system. By shifting to a scheduled visitation system staffing requirements will be consistent, parking problems will be reduced and jail staff efficiency will increase.

According to Saleem Sayani, Director of Criminal Justice Information Systems and Assistant Director of Information Technology at Fulton County: “We are looking forward to the deployment of a system that will increase our security as well as providing better service to the public. We anticipate a cost savings in manpower as well as an increase in the efficiency of our workforce. The use of this type of technology will help prevent situations that led to the Brian Nichols incident. Any time we can minimize the movement of inmates we increase safety for our staff and the public.”
