Fort Lauderdale, FL, December 03, 2008 --(PR.com)-- The City of Fort Lauderdale forges ahead with community outreach in partnership with the Florida Martin Luther King, Jr. Institute for Nonviolence.

Now more than ever, in these times of uncertainty across the nation, communities can benefit from the teachings of nonviolent conflict resolution. The City of Fort Lauderdale is working to stay ahead of the negative affects of a suffering national economy by being a catalyst for members of our community to come together and have open and honest discussion.

On October 29, 2008, community leaders from the National Association for the Advancement for Colored People (NAACP), Gay and Lesbian Cultural Center (GLCC), Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce, Black History Tours, members of the Fort Lauderdale City Commission, Fort Lauderdale City Staff, State Representatives’ Offices, Community Redevelopment Agency, Downtown Development Authority (DDA), the Broward Diversity Leadership Academy, and area churches came together for the first community leadership briefing hosted by the Fort Lauderdale Police Department and facilitated by The Florida Martin Luther King, Jr. Institute for Nonviolence.

The outcome of this briefing was to offer nonviolence classes across Fort Lauderdale, addressing the diverse communities that make up our City. The first workshop will be held on Thursday, December 4, 2008 at the GLCC, located at 1717 N. Andrews Avenue, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33311 beginning at 5:30 pm.
