VisualDxHealth Partners with International Pemphigus and Pemphigoid Foundation to Provide Online Visual and Informational Consumer Resources

Collaboration Promotes Early Diagnosis of Rare Yet Potentially Fatal Diseases.

Rochester, NY, December 11, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Logical Images Inc.'s leading online skin health resource, VisualDxHealth, today announced a partnership with the International Pemphigus and Pemphigoid Foundation (IPPF), which serves as the world’s preeminent information source for pemphigus and pemphigoid. The partnership aims to raise awareness about the diseases within the online community searching for information on skin health concerns.

Information provided by IPPF will be integrated into VisualDxHealth’s online collection of more than 200 skin diseases and conditions. VisualDxHealth will include medical images of pemphigus and pemphigoid in their existing library of over 2,000 medical images. The team hopes to use images, coupled with the information provided by IPPF, to help online health consumers recognize these diseases and to foster discussion with physicians about the topic.

Pemphigus and pemphigoid are autoimmune diseases that present as blisters on a patient’s skin, mouth, or eye. These diseases can affect people of any race or skin type, and research shows that people may have a genetic predisposition to these diseases. Pemphigus and pemphigoid are also commonly misdiagnosed, which is especially problematic because the diseases become more resistant to treatment if not promptly identified and appropriately controlled. It is crucial for patients to know what symptoms to look for on their skin as well as for doctors to recognize the signs to make an early and accurate diagnosis.

“Having the combination of medical skin images and disease information online is a relevant and effective means of reaching out to consumers,” said Molly Stuart, CEO of the International Pemphigus and Pemphigoid Foundation. “VisualDxHealth’s online skin health library and IPPF’s range of information on pemphigus and pemphigoid will be a powerful medical resource patients can rely on to become more aware of the visual symptoms and treatments for these diseases.”

As one of the largest consumer-facing databases of expert-edited medical images, VisualDxHealth’s online resource will assist IPPF in promoting faster and more accurate diagnoses with the intention of ultimately lessening the number of misdiagnoses. In addition to its medical image library, VisualDxHealth also offers consumer tools such as My Disease Finder, interactive online widgets, and other educational resources.

“VisualDxHealth values collaboration with and reaching out to other professional health organizations,” said Rory Burrill, Director of Consumer Health at Logical Images. “VisualDxHealth’s mission to deliver expert visual health information complements IPPF’s mission of increasing awareness for those diagnosed with or affected by these diseases. This partnership will be a crucial and valuable educational health resource for consumers.”
