Event Spaces by The Design Group (TDG) Were Works of Art Themselves at Art Basel Miami Beach

South Florida’s premier event design and production company, TDG, created set design and décor elements for Art Expo Miami & Gen Art Vanguard New Contemporary Art Fair exhibits.

Miami, FL, December 13, 2008 --(PR.com)-- 2008’s Art Basel Miami Beach, has concluded its run of cultural and social events that proved to be a year for the appreciation of art and design, and not just the sale of art due to the woes of the global economy. Lending its creative expertise to beautify the exhibits was The Design Group (TDG), who produced décor, set design and room transformation for two of Art Basel Miami Beaches’ top exhibits- the Art Photo Expo Miami within the In Fashion Photo exhibit, and for the Gen Art Vanguard New Contemporary Art Fair.

Under the direction of TDG’s President and Creative Director, Mr. Jean Augustin, and in conjunction with Art Photo Expo’s organizer, Francois Trabelsi, TDG’s team of international designers transformed a 30,000 square-foot space of a municipal parking lot in Miami’s Design District into an outdoor gallery, and constructed a custom VIP lounge for iconic supermodel and muse for the exhibit, Naomi Campbell. The red carpet entrance was created by TDG and accented with luminaries, trussing and a branded step & repeat banner. Natural grass was both underfoot and on the walls that led exhibit-goers through winding walkways accented with tropical plants and custom built Plexiglas Walls adorned with Campbell’s exhibit photos were lit from within, providing ambiance lighting for the lounge. TDG International Design Florist recreated Naomi Campbell’s world-famous signature using fresh white carnations against a grass wall backdrop. And custom-built “collars” with sheer draping and colorful lighting concealed support beams of Miami’s midtown bridge standing above the parking lot-turned- paradise art and lounge space. For the Gen Art Vanguard New Contemporary Art Fair, TDG created a space within Charcoal Studios in Miami to house the three works of art by 3 contemporary artists, who were challenged to create original works of art from the texture, taste and experience of eating FAGE yogurt, who sponsored the event. Taking inspiration from the FAGE’s slogan “Ridiculously Thick Yogurt”, TDG created a custom built “Impressions Wall” for guests to leave their hand print or signature in modeling clay. Inventively creating another way for guests to leave their impressions, TDG carpenters built memory-foam benches giving you the feeling of sinking in the thick delicious yogurt. Getting hungry for The Design Group yet? All the artwork displayed was illuminated by light boxes constructed by TDG and was auctioned off with 100% of the proceeds going to the Arts for Learning program. Students from a local Miami school were lucky enough to join the artists for a workshop in support of the Lunch & Learn program at the art space.

From original set design, stylized room transformations and dynamic décor, The Design Group-Miami created a city-wide buzz with its outstanding production of events that were as artistic as the work being showcased.
