Irvine, CA, December 21, 2008 --(PR.com)-- FUTEK’s Multi-Axis Load Cell Received Recognition on Discovery Channel Show Prototype This.

FUTEK Advanced Sensor Technology, Inc. is pleased to announce that its MAU300 Multi-Axis Load Cell was featured on the popular Discovery Channel Network, “Prototype This”. On the show, “Prototype This”, a team of engineers and mechanical geniuses take on various problems of today's world by creating one-of-a-kind prototypes for the future. Their engineers create models to be tested and used in several applications. The show titled Prototype This!: Robotic Firefighter Assistant, featured FUTEK’s MAU300 in a project creating a robotic model.

In this particular episode engineers were trying to come up with ways that would make a firefighter’s job safer and easier. The average load a fireman carries on his back, up several flights of stairs, is 100lbs. Creating a “stairbot” control system with the capability of carrying a firefighter’s equipment upstairs and bringing injured persons downstairs would help the firefighter to be more efficient and save their energy. In order to control the speed of the stairbot, a control system using FUTEK’s MAU300 Multi-Axis Load Cell was used. The Load Cell input translated into motor output which had the ability of carrying a 300lb. load up and down numerous flights of stairs.

This type of Load Cell is typically used in most automotive applications. The MAU300 is designed to test the Fx and Fy loads taken place during shifting and can also be used in applications involving gaming, flight simulators, on tractors or anything that involves shifting. Additional design features include the use of an ergonomic cover with anti-slip notches. The MAU330 Stick Shift Sensor is manufactured in USA, and similar to our entire Load Cell product line uses metal foil strain gauge technology.

Product Highlights:

Ideal for Automotive Applications
Measure Fx and Fy Loads
Strain Gauge Based
Anodized Aluminum
Ergonomic Cover with Anti-Slip Notches

For those who are a looking for a complete system solution, FUTEK can provide both signal conditioned displays or our VCal Portable System. FUTEK’s VCal Portable System brings an easy-to-use system verification directly to the customer making it ideal for on-site verification and calibration of your products. FUTEK MAU Series is also available with TEDS / IEEE1451.4 option.
