Scholarship Available for High School Seniors Interested in a Culinary Education

The winner of the Best Teen Chef Competition earns the chance to be a Food Network “Intern for a Day.”

Santa Ana, CA, January 02, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Now in its tenth year, The Art Institutes Best Teen Chef Competition offers high school seniors interested in a culinary arts education the opportunity to compete for over $250,000 in tuition scholarships. The top prize winner will receive a full-tuition scholarship toward a bachelor’s degree, associate’s degree or diploma program at one of The Art Institutes schools.

In addition to a full-tuition scholarship and the title Best Teen Chef 2009, the national first place winner will be a Food Network “Intern for a Day” at the Food Network Kitchens in New York City. The winner will also receive a tour of the Food Network’s studios, dinner for two at a Food Network Chef’s restaurant and a library of Food Network Kitchen’s cookbooks.

“Interest in the competition continues to grow every year,” said Culinary Arts Academic Director Chef Daniel Mattos. “Students still in high school are demonstrating the determination, focus and drive needed to have a career in the challenging field of culinary arts.”

To be named Best Teen Chef, students must make it through three stages of competition. The first step requires students to compete an online registration form at www.artinstitutes.edu/btc no later than February 6, 2009. A complete entry must be submitted to a participating school no later than February 20, 2009.

In the second round, students compete in a local cook-off at The International Culinary School at The Art Institute of California – Orange County to determine who will move on to the national competition. Local cook-offs will take place at Art Institute locations across North America on March 14, 2009.

Winners from the local cook-off competitions progress to the National Best Teen Chef Final Round Competition on Saturday May 9, 2009 at The Art Institute of Charlotte.
