Habitat Spring Gala Escapes to a Different Era

Aberdeen, NC, January 06, 2009 --(PR.com)-- From the Art Deco inspired invitation to the music selections and the decorations, Habitat is throwing a 1920’s themed gala. The Sandhills Habitat annual fundraiser will be held Saturday evening, March 7 at the Country Club of North Carolina. CCNC offers a more intimate setting for this event, which presents a chance to escape to the decade of flappers, the Charleston, prohibition and speakeasies.

“Celebrating the 1920’s is a way we can get away from our current worries and celebrate Habitat and its supporters,” said Amanda Jakl, Special Events coordinator at Habitat.

The event will start at 6:00pm with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres on the lower terrace of the Country Club in a fully conditioned tent. Opportunities to play the popular game “Heads or Tails” will be sold during cocktails. The winner of the game, played after dessert, will be awarded a two-night stay at The Cloister on Sea Island, GA. For a small fee, guests can get their photo taken with classic 1920s props, like strands of pearls, long cigarette holders, feather boas and gangster attire.

Following the cocktail hour, guests move inside to the main dining room for a three course dinner and a live auction. This year’s auction will include an array of exciting items such as a catered dinner for 10 in your own home, floral arrangements for a year, and a getaway to a perennial favorite, Kiawah Island.

Dancing in the lower terrace will round out the evening, so make sure you strap on your dancing shoes. The Bill Bolen Band of Chapel Hill will be back with music from the original jazz era and plenty of crowd favorites. Keeping with the theme, 1920s attire is highly encouraged.

The Gala Committee has added a new feature and game to this year’s event “Diamonds & Champagne” which offers guests a glass of champagne and a chance to win an exquisite Hearts On Fire diamond pendant. The winner does not have to be present to win and chances can be purchased at the Habitat office or by calling 910.295.1934.

A website, another new feature this year, has been created for the gala. “A website is ideal for showcasing our amazing auction items, especially the vacation homes,” said Jakl, “We can show our guests all the photos we have of an auction item, instead of the one or two they’ll see in the program book the night of the gala.” The website includes details on the evening’s games, auction items, and driving directions for out-of-town guests. Since the gala is two months away, the website is a work in progress. Check back often to see if auction items have been added. The web address is www.sandhillshabitatgala.weebly.com.
