Jill A. Lipoti, PhD, Recognized for Protection of New Jersey Residents

Lawrenceville, NJ, January 09, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Paul J. Hirsch, MD, Chairman of the Edward J. Ill Excellence in Medicine Foundation, today announced that Jill A. Lipoti, PhD, will receive a Special Award for her achievements in protecting and maintaining the safety and welfare of the people of New Jersey. The award will be presented at the Edward J. Ill Excellence in Medicine Awards® ceremony on May 6, 2009 at the Hyatt Regency Princeton.

Jill Lipoti, PhD, has earned this recognition for her dedicated efforts at protecting the people of New Jersey from unnecessary exposure to radiation from natural and man-made sources. Dr. Lipoti is Director of the Division of Environmental Safety and Health in the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection. She has responsibility for radiation protection, chemical release prevention, quality assurance, and pollution prevention. Dr. Lipoti guided the Bureau of Radiological Health in the development and implementation of a Radiographic Quality Assurance Program that resulted in reducing patient radiation exposure by over 35% and improving image quality by over 15% for common radiological examinations. This program has received national recognition and has served as a model for other states. Dr. Lipoti’s responsibilities also include participation in domestic security preparedness as an expert in chemical, radiological and nuclear emergency preparedness. She is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey School of Public Health.

“Dr. Lipoti unquestionably merits recognition for her achievements in radiological safety and health,” said Dr. Hirsch. “She is not only extremely well respected for her professional competency as a scientist and administrator, but also as an innovator, teacher and author.”
