Park Springs Raises Money for Alzheimer’s Association

Atlanta, GA, January 15, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Park Springs’ members and staff planned several fundraising activities during Alzheimer’s Awareness Week the second week in October to support the Alzheimer’s Association, and through various activities, raised $4,238 for this organization, which works diligently to raise funds and awareness to fight and eventually find a cure for Alzheimer’s, and provides services to millions of people including many Park Springs members and other Atlanta senior living residents.

During their second annual “Memory Week,” Park Springs staff, members and their families collaborated to create a week of fun activities designed to raise funds and awareness for the disease. A continental breakfast was held at Cobblestone at Park Springs for members and family; two greatly successful bake sales were held – a traditional bake sale and “no bake” bake sale (where members and staff could make donations without the sugar and calories) and a spaghetti luncheon was hosted by Food and Beverage Services at the community. The activities of the week culminated with a three-mile Memory Walk around the track at Chastain Park, for which Park Springs was a corporate sponsor, and a Fall Festival back at the community. The Fall Festival, was attended by many members and staff and their friends and families included carriage rides, cookout, inflatables and cotton candy, made by members. Park Springs raised twice as much money in this year's Memory Week as was raised last year.

“Isakson Barnhart is committed to developing senior residential communities and our members become our family,” said Anresa Davis, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Isakson Barnhart. “Every day, we live with Alzheimer’s effects and do everything we can for those members and their families. It is unfortunate but true that the tools we need for Alzheimer's just aren't there yet, such as testing for an accurate diagnosis, a vaccine for prevention, medications to better manage and preserve intellectual and mental function. Until science and medicine can find a preventative and a cure, we have a responsibility to care for those with Alzheimer's; and this fundraiser is a symbol of the compassion, love and tenderness that Park Springs members, staff and families have for this special population. We are looking forward to Memory Week being an annual event.”

“Alzheimer's disease is a disorder that impacts many of our Atlanta senior living residents and employees and their friends and family, and they want to do something to help,” said Cedric Ferrell, the Activity Coordinator for Cobblestone at Park Springs, who organized many of the events of Memory Week. “Through the fundraising activities, such as the bake sale and fall festival, our members can do a small part to help with Alzheimer's care, support and research.”
