Green Drinks International Comes to Ventura County

Publisher of Green Home and Family Magazine launches networking group for enviro-types in Ventura County, CA.

Ventura, CA, February 07, 2009 --(PR.com)-- No, the drinks themselves aren’t green. It’s the people who drink them that lend that specific tinge to the events called “Green Drinks.” And the premise is simple and organic: there are no annual dues to pay, and no paid leadership. Just meet with other environmentally minded folks and share a beverage or two.

But there’s more to Ventura County, CA’s local chapter of Green Drinks International than just drinking. Green Drinks of Thousand Oaks meets at 5:30 p.m. on the second Wednesday every month. And even though the local chapter is called “Thousand Oaks,” it’s really about all of Ventura County. Because Green Drinks International already had a chapter in Santa Barbara, they felt that Ventura was ‘too close’ to Santa Barbara, so they asked the new local chapter to call itself ‘Thousand Oaks.’

“I’ve been so fortunate to have a ring-side seat for the growth that our end of the green community is experiencing,” said Hillary Jiler, publisher of Green Home and Family Magazine, and the leader who spearheaded the local chapter. “Every month I meet someone who is growing green. Through the connection with our readers, I have learned so much. Getting to pass it on means that I get to wake-up with a smile on my face each morning. I love all of this! At ‘Green Drinks’ I see business owners and community members reaching out to one another and making huge strides in creating a conscious place to live.”

Green Drinks Thousand Oaks consists of a lively mixture of people from nonprofits, academia, government and business. “We’ve been meeting since August of last year, and rotating our locations, so there’s always a slightly different crowd,” said regular attendee Tea Silvestre. “I always meet new people and get to catch up with those I haven’t seen in awhile, too.”

About Green Drinks Thousand Oaks: Monthly events are simple and unstructured, and many people come to find employment, make friends, build collaborations, develop ideas, and experience moments of serendipity. It's a force for the good that meets on the 2nd Wednesday of every month in a new location, somewhere in Ventura County.
