Help Clients Resist the Temptation of Process Addictions at Las Vegas Conference

Foundations Recovery Network, a dual diagnosis treatment network known for its unprecedented conference hosting, presents “Process Addictions: Approaches for Professionals”- a conference dedicated to informing healthcare professionals about co-occurring mental health, process addictions and substance related disorders.

Brentwood, TN, February 11, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Foundations Recovery Network brings the next dual diagnosis conference to The Palms Resort in Las Vegas, Nev., April 22-24, 2009. “Process Addictions: Approaches for Professionals” offers up to 18 hours of Continuing Education Certification and the opportunity to network with the industry’s top professionals.

A process addiction is defined as a compulsion to engage in a pattern of behaviors (i.e. sex, food, shopping) and continuing in these behaviors despite adverse consequences. A dual diagnosis occurs when a process addiction or substance abuse is coupled with a mental health disorder.

Participants at this conference will gain in-depth information about process addictions and mental health treatment while also being updated on the field’s advances over the last five years.

Conference objectives:

· To learn how to assess and diagnosis clients with co-occurring mental health, process addictions and substance-related disorders
· To identify treatment strategies with special awareness to the needs of persons with dual disorders and culturally diverse populations
· To classify the applications of behavioral treatment, the integrated model, individual and group therapies, motivational enhancement and other approaches in providing treatment services for co-occurring disorders

With 29 of the recovery industry’s top professionals speaking on the latest trends, participants will find a wide variety of information available at their fingertips. Topics range from sexual compulsivity and eating disorders to virtual addiction and pathological gambling. Each day will feature keynote speeches to highlight certain trends or approaches in the dual diagnosis field. Dr. Patrick Carnes and Dr. Claudia Black are two of this year’s keynote speakers.

Dr. Patrick Carnes is the Executive Director of the Gentle Path programs at Pine Grove in Mississippi. Carnes was the primary architect of Gentle Path treatment programs for the treatment of sexual and addictive disorders. He has also authored books such as “Open Hearts” (1992) and “The Clinical Management of Sex Addiction” (2002). Carnes’ presentation is titled, “From Genes to Fear: The Process Addictions.”

Dr. Claudia Black is a renowned lecturer, author and trainer, also internationally recognized for her work in family systems and addictive disorders. Currently, she is the Clinical Consultant of Addictive Disorders for The Meadows and a Senior Fellow for The Meadows Institute in Arizona. Conference attendees will enjoy accommodations at The Palms, Las Vegas’ newest destination getaway. The resort combines the best in luxury and entertainment while adding the excitement of an extensive mix of restaurants, spas, salons and more.
