Victoria, Australia, February 17, 2009 --(PR.com
)-- Last week, the price of unleaded petrol fell below $1 a litre in most major centres - a drop of almost 60 cents since mid-July.
The drop in prices has provided relief for thousands of consumers, helping to keep some extra Christmas trimmings in the back pocket.
DriveNow Director Russell Matters predicts this will encourage families to take a driving holiday which they previously thought was going to be impossible this season.
“Before the Christmas peak, many car and campervan companies reduce rates by more than 20 percent. These savings, along with those at the petrol pump, means families and friends can get together and enjoy a well deserved holiday this summer,” says Matters.
“Many people are choosing to holiday in Australia rather than heading overseas, where the weaker dollar will not go as far as it did earlier in the year,” he added.
Car Rental rates are heavily reduced and currently start from:
$34 per day in Brisbane
$35 per day in Sydney
$33 per day in Melbourne
In the current economic climate, travel remains an important part of the Australian lifestyle and with petrol prices unlikely to increase early in the New Year, John Findlay of Doncaster, Victoria has decided to plan a break.
“This year has been a huge financial struggle. The overall cost of going on a holiday with the family if we were to fly was just not an option,” says John.
“With petrol prices this low, a local driving holiday exploring our own backyard is an affordable way to spend time with the family, so we have decided to book a car and take a driving holiday along the coast.”
