Minneapolis, MN, May 11, 2005 --(PR.com
)-- There is a new grass roots movement taking place that has a potential to raise millions of dollars for charities nationwide. Typically donations are down during the slow summer months. Called Garage Sales for Charity.org it allows anyone having a garage or yard sale to make a commitment to donate a portion of their sales to their favorite charity.
Garage Sales for Charity.org collects no money on behalf or donated to any charity. Charity selection and amounts donated are entirely up to the person having the garage sale. Wherever they feel it will do the most good. They can choose their local food shelf, shelter, church program, national charity, etc. Garage Sales for Charity simply acts as a central resource to provide information and promotion. They are not affiliated with any organization, charity or political group.
Garage Sales for Charity is asking anyone who plans on having a garage or yard sale to make a commitment to donate a minimum of $50 or 10% of their sales to their favorite charity. After the sale is made an email sent to Garage Sales for Charity listing the amount and charity given to, will allow them to keep a running total of amounts donated nationwide.
The potential for raising millions of dollars is huge. If only 100 people a week in all 50 states participated it would raise over $1,000,000 a month for charities nationwide. This is money charities would otherwise never see during months they may need it the most. It is easy to give at the end of the year or around the holidays but this is an effortless easy way for anyone having a sale to raise money for their favorite charity.
For charities, by promoting Garage Sales for Charity.org in their fundraising materials, it is an easy way to bring in new funds from individuals who may not thought of giving to them before.
One person, one garage sale, can make a difference.
