Audubon International Selects Portofino as a Silver Signature Member

Equestrian Community recognized for environmentally friendly developing.

Clayton, NC, March 01, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Portofino, an exclusive equestrian community located in Clayton, has been selected by Audubon International as a member of its Silver Signature Program. Portofino is being developed by The Walthom Group of Clayton.

The Silver Signature Program recognizes communities that integrate an ecosystem approach to construction and management; and provide environmental education for those that live, work and recreate in the community.

“We want the Portofino community to incorporate the natural beauty of the area,” said Norwood Thompson of the Walthom Group. “The entire development includes nature trails along the Neuse River, elevated pathways and an extensive equestrian center which includes stables and a covered riding ring.”

The primary goals of Audubon International are to conserve and enhance biological diversity, to promote sustainability, ecosystem management, and ecological restoration.

Portofino sits on 300 acres nestled in Clayton, 15 minutes from Raleigh and 30 minutes from Research Triangle Park. The gated community is a convenient and luxurious place to call home in the Triangle.

The Ali 2 Equestrian Center at Portofino is a state of the art boarding, training, and riding facility. The complex consists of 22 large stalls, two tack rooms, private lockers, showers, 4 wash/grooming stalls, 30 acres of fenced pastures and two riding arenas (covered and outdoor with rubber composite footing).

The barn is fully equipped with sprinklers and web cams for piece of mind. The facility will be independently owned and operated by a staff of trainers, managers and a concierge.

With five miles of trails, the Ali2 Stables is a place trail riders can enjoy a peaceful ride through the beautiful 400-acre development, plus the trails will connect to the 900-mile Mountains to Sea Trail that is currently being constructed across North Carolina.

In order to retain certification with Audubon International, Portofino will submit annual reports and any appropriate documentation regarding environmental issues, host an annual audit, and submit membership dues.
