Danville, CA, March 11, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Forward Motion Race Club Laces Up to Reclaim Their Title.

Forty-eight runners from Forward Motion Race Club are set to run 199 miles in
The Relay, in honor of a six-year old awaiting a heart-lung transplant

Forty-eight runners from Forward Motion Race Club (FMRC) are poised to pass the baton to help raise the awareness for organ donation in a relay race that’s been dubbed as California’ longest party. On May 2-3, runners will start from the Calistoga Beverage Company and race 199 miles in teams of twelve to the Beach Boardwalk in Santa Cruz. Funds raised in The Relay promote the need for donated organs through Organs 'R' Us.

Reclaiming the Open Coed division title is only one of the club’s goals for this year’s relay. In 2006, their squad “Tri Curious” won the division title in 25:05:47 and finished in 7th place overall. During the two-day event, runners from the club will also attempt to disclaim the theory that all good things come in threes. Two coed teams will square off in a friendly inter-squad rivalry to prove who’s the fittest, pitting twelve of their best runners against twelve of their top triathletes.

FMRC dedicates this year’s efforts to Clayton resident, Katie Grace Groebner. On the outside, she looks like any other wide-eyed kindergartener eager to learn and make new friends. And like most six year olds, Katie Grace has lots of plans. She plans to be a “pet doctor” when she grows up. She plans to marry Pirates of the Caribbean actor, Orlando Bloom at Coldstone Creamery.

But unlike other girls her age, Katie Grace’s backpack isn’t filled with the usual assortment of colored pencils, snack bags and homework assignments. Her backpack contains a Broviac unit that continuously dispenses medication into her veins via a catheter. Katie Grace lives with Pulmonary Hypertension, a devastating condition that has her on a waiting list for a heart-lung transplant.

FMRC is honored to be running on behalf of Katie Grace. They hope their efforts will raise awareness for this little girl, whose medical expenses exceed $10,000 per month, as well as spread the message about the importance of organ donation. Katie Grace will receive a transplant at Stanford as soon as a match is found.

Founded by Marty Breen, Danville’s Business Person of the Year for 2009, FMRC’s mission is to create and promote an organized venue where athletes (runners, triathletes, cyclist, swimmers, etc) of all ages and abilities can pursue their individual training and racing goals in an exciting, motivating, informative and social environment. Having fun and enjoying the camaraderie of their fellow teammates is their main goal.

After starting with nine teams in 1995, The Relay became one of the nation’s largest long distance relays and has attracted more than three hundred teams of twelve runners. The 199-mile course through thirty-six cities boasts the largest number of tourist destinations of any run. Running three legs of three to eight miles, participants travel through Calistoga, Napa, Sonoma, Marin, Sausalito, across the Golden Gate Bridge at midnight under a full moon, through San Francisco and Silicon Valley to Santa Cruz.

The Relay is not about being the fastest. The Relay is about learning what it takes to be a winner and doing one's best for the team in a celebration of life and running.

Organs 'R' Us was founded in San Francisco in 1996 and supports 100,000 Americans like Katie Grace waiting for organs by generating $25 million in publicity promoting the need for donors. Through running and walking, ORU members showcase their fitness proving that transplantation restores health. “In the long run, organ donation saves lives,” says ORU coach Jeff Shapiro.
