Distance No Barrier as Savvy Students Help Improve Software Skills in the UK

Two young entrepreneurs, based in opposite ends of the country, have launched an innovative way for people to gain new skills in a softening job market.

London, United Kingdom, March 20, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Mediaroots Ltd has launched a comprehensive range of affordable video training DVDs that help people gain new skills in creative software, such as Adobe Photoshop, and improve their employment prospects in a tight job market.

The DVDs are tailored specifically to a UK rather than US audience, after one of the company’s two young founders, Ryan Falconer (26), discovered during research for his MSc that British audiences were turned off by the American accents used in US training DVDs.

“All of our training is delivered by instructors from the British creative industry, and the DVDs are perfect for people who might be struggling to find employment in the current economic climate, as well as people who want to improve their skills and build their CV to stand out from other candidates,” said Falconer, Co-Managing Director.

“Unlike expensive and time-consuming training courses, video training lets individuals or company employees access the training where and when it suits them, as well as enabling them to learn at their own pace and level.”

A truly virtual company, the two founders - Falconer and Jack Smith (20) - live 400 miles apart in London and Edinburgh. They initially “met” online when Ryan, a freelance web designer, needed a web developer for a project and found Jack through an Internet search.

The two students discovered they shared the same entrepreneurial spirit and worked together for three years on Mediaroots without ever meeting, after identifying a gap in the UK market. They communicated daily through MSN and Skype. The Mediaroots team now consists of 20 people spread around the UK, including 12 software trainers.

Co-founder Smith said, “All of our training DVDs not only teach the individual tools and techniques of an application, but also how to apply these to real life potential projects, such as designing a poster or building a website. They are a great way to improve your employability during tough times.”
