Celebrity Dogs to the Rescue

A virtual who's who in canine celebrities slated to show support for homeless pets.

Fredericksburg, VA, March 25, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Celebrity dogs from across the country will be among the celebrities and guests gathering in Fredericksburg, Virginia on March 28, 2009 for a grand birthday celebration and roast in honor of fellow Celebripup™ Andrew the Great Maltese from CBS’s Greatest American Dog, and benefit for the United Maltese Rescue, Inc. The gala red carpet event promises to be a virtual “who’s who” among celebrity dogs and will feature a canine couture fashion show featuring the designs of the top dogwear designers, live performances by Jilli the Poker Playing Yorkie, the Amazing Leroy, and the Mighty Mites Teacup Dog Agility team, a silent auction, raffles, food and fun, with 100% of the proceeds going to the United Maltese Rescue, Inc. (UMR) Since 2000, the UMR has been dedicated to the rescue, care, fostering and placement of Maltese and Maltese-mixed dogs in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. Because of their small size and perpetual “puppy look,” Maltese remain a very attractive and highly sought after breed among puppy mill dealers and pet stores. The little white bundles of fur are appealing to impulse puppy buyers, but as they become adults and the novelty wears off, many adult dogs find themselves unwanted and homeless. Fortunately the UMR has been there to step in and provide the needed medical care and foster homes until appropriate forever homes are found.

The event is being hosted by Pup ‘N Iron Canine Fitness & Learning Center in Fredericksburg. Among the event sponsors are top pet product companies such as Premier Pet Products, Ark Naturals, Animal Fair Magazine, Nature’s Variety Pet Foods, Bark Magazine, Pet A Potty, and Fundamentally Dog.
