DataGuise Launches Know Your Data Program to Identify Potential for Data Theft and Non-Compliance

Unique Program Bundles Software and Services, Lowering Cost of Sensitive Data Discovery.

Fremont, CA, April 17, 2009 --(PR.com)-- DataGuise, an innovator of data security and compliance solutions for enterprises, today announced the DataGuise Know Your Data™ program. The new program combines software in combination with onsite service to automate the process of discovering where sensitive data is located. The DataGuise Know Your Data program helps organizations pinpoint the location of credit card numbers, social security numbers, addresses, salaries, and other sensitive content stored throughout the enterprise to secure information from unauthorized access.

In most organizations, sensitive information is scattered in unprotected databases and file shares across corporate infrastructure. While regulations such as the Payment Card Industry (PCI) Data Security Standard, HIPAA, SOX and the Personal Data Privacy Act of 2007 require companies to protect privacy data, this has become a challenge for many organizations since there is a lack of visibility into critical data assets that leave companies exposed to significant risk. Prevention of unauthorized access to such privileged corporate information must be a mandatory business directive and industry experts agree that information in both production and non-production environments in use for application development, testing and training, remains a top concern.

DataGuise’s Know Your Data program uses the company’s dgDiscover™ solution to automate the process of discovering where sensitive data is located. DataGuise consultants arrive onsite and perform a comprehensive analysis for up to three days to review findings and develop recommendations. The software-based service searches both structured and unstructured data repositories to locate content in databases, spreadsheets, word documents, PDF and XML files. Upon completion of discovery, the DataGuise solution classifies information identified by the level of risk it presents to the organization without proper protection. Classifications include:
• Category A: Highest level of risk – Most sensitive data that is both restricted and vital to operations
• Category B: Moderate risk – Information is both critical and vital
• Category C: Low risk – Data is sensitive but presents lower risk profile

Once analysis is complete, processes and procedures are recommended to protect sensitive data outside of the production environment.

“The level of risk that rogue privileged/privacy data poses to organizations cannot be overstated,” said Manmeet Singh, CEO of DataGuise. “When organizations understand the seriousness of threats across typically under-protected non-production environments, they are more likely to take action to prevent security issues from materializing. The DataGuise Know Your Data program helps companies get their hands around this challenge and apply advanced tools to mitigate potential risks.”

Once sensitive data has been targeted for protection, the DataGuise dgMasker™ suite provides the industry’s most advanced database masking solution to address the challenge and is designed for the highest level of flexibility and functionality across heterogeneous environments. Beyond conventional masking tools, DataGuise brings unprecedented point-and-click usability while delivering the most comprehensive feature set. Ease-of-use is woven throughout the solution to reduce deployment time from months to days.
